New York based artist Seth Indigo Carnes, also known as [sic], is a conceptual media artist whose works focus on the creation of emotive experience and spiritual goods. Carnes’s works often reference the moving image, culture, technology, the public, street art, performance, and music.
Just as Carnes juxtaposes his own past and present, his work tends to explore boundaries that permeate contemporary society such as: high / low culture, private / public spaces, self / group, nature / machine.
His tendency to explore and continually present different angles is perhaps best illustrated through a rich history of collaboration with other artists, including Paul D. Miller (DJ Spooky), Shepard Fairey, The Roots, Thierry Geoffroy, David Ellis, Polar, and Ali Hossaini.
Past exhibitions include P.S.1 Contemporary Art Center, the Museum of Contemporary Art Chicago, White Box (NYC), Emily Harvey Foundation (NYC), Witzenhausen Gallery (NYC), Fountain Art Fair (Miami), Lund 2014 (Sweden), The Drop (NYC), the luggage store (SF), Martin Showroom (Napa Valley), 39 Hotel (Honolulu).
His works have been exhibited at ARS Electronica, Oberhausen International Short Film Festival, RESfest, South by Southwest (SXSW), the Napa Valley Wine Auction, Pirineos Sur, Cinema Paradise Film Festival.
Carnes holds a BA in History from Pomona College and a MS in Integrated Digital Media from NYU Polytechnic.
