About This Work

Travel Scrapbooks 1883/2008, 1 is part of the Travel Scrapbooks 1883/2008 series, an edition available exclusively on ArtWeLove. This edition was created specially for ArtWeLove as a still from Travels with Isabella (2008), a video project originally completed after Luisa's artist residency at the Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum in Boston, MA. While in residency, Luisa was allowed access to Isabella Gardner's travel journals, which documented her trip through 19th century China. From this private collection of images and objects, Luisa combined her own drawings and live footage to create a half-hour film which she describes as a "story of life told through emotion, through sensations". Watch our short segment studio visit with Luisa to learn more.
